Jen Chung Wins a Wired Rave Award!

We have some exciting news to share with our readers - Jen Chung, co-founder, editor of Gothamist, and executive editor for all Gothamist sites, has won a Wired Rave Award! The Rave Awards look for people that are "innovators, instigators, and inventors" in their field, with Jen receiving the award for blogs (she's "The Town Crier"). Lest you think Wired hands the award out to anyone, Jen has some pretty good company. Some of the 2007 Rave Award winners include: Tim Kring, creator of Heroes (and Crossing Jordan!); J.K. Rowling; Alfonso CuarĂ³n; fellow blogger, Arianna Huffington; and the Governator Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Here's an excerpt from Wired:
Gothamist got big by thinking small: Chung keeps her sites trained on what's going on in readers' backyards. "As we were starting the site, I thought, how many people know who their city council member is?" says Chung, who still has a day job as an advertising exec in Manhattan. "We're relentlessly focused on stories that larger outlets might have mentioned in passing but have otherwise neglected."While it's Jen's name on the award, the honor is shared with all our editors and contributors across the Gothamist Network and with the readers, tipsters, and commenters who make what we do possible. Thanks for your support! And we've got a lot of exciting developments planned for the future -- so stay tuned.
The Wired issue with the 2007 Rave Awards is on newsstands now. The bonus for buying the actual magazine, is that you can see for yourself how Jen's head fills up nearly half a printed page! (She also wants you to know you can find your City Council member here or here.)

Now that she is an award winner, she should be required to read through her posts once before posting. Seriously. All she has to do is read it through once and she'll catch the errors everyone on here brutally points out. ONCE! This isn't amateur night anymore. Hold yourself to a higher standard.
"Chung keeps her sites"???
Umm, sights???
Congrats, Jen!
Congrats! Say, will Autographed Copies be given out??
;)
who know wired gave awards for great racks?
jen is a nice piece.
is she wearing a rolex?
Congrats to Jen and to Gothamist! Gothamist is my favorite news site and always the first blog I check when I do the rounds.
now, can she win a spelling bee?
I knew it was only a matter of seconds before someone would slam the editing. Congrats, Jen, and the whole gothamist staff. I'm willing to overlook the occasional typo or mixed up word if it means I get the stories I care about faster, and I wish the rest of your readers could say the same.
Cool! Keep up the good work.
Congrats!!!!
congratulations,
now on to your emmy for your Black out 2006 coverage.

This award should have been given to her maybe 2-3 years ago, but the quality of Gothamist reporting has really gone down hill, especially this last year.
Also, this site is really only trained on your backyard if you live in Brooklyn. It tends to be Brooklyn-centric
Congrats Jen!
This blog does talk mostly about Manhattan and Brooklyn much more so than Queens, The Bronx and Staten Island.
Shine on you crazy diamond...
congrats!
Jen, and gothamist crew, you deserve every last bit of this. I have gone to you for information time and time again. Keep up the good work and don't let the cynics get you down when they bitch and moan about grammar. For every asshat out there, there are a hundred of us who love ya.
congratulations! i love this blog. ignore the haters, jen, you are great.
congrats jen and the rest of you. it's well deserved.
Congratulations! Gothamist IMO is the definitive online resource for New York. You guys do an incredible job keeping us up to date on virtually every aspect of life in the city. Thank you, and keep up the great work!
Congrats Jen! You make Asians proud. Not like me
Yeah, Now get to work on your grammar ! My niece has a serious problem with all those spelling errors . Your an everyday topic with her, That's bad she's only [10] .
it's like criticizing grammar on the internet, when your grammar sucks.
Yes, congratulations are in order! So... congratulations and keep up the good work! Thank you.
i think wired has yellow fever.
Great stuff
I'm so pleased for Jen and ALL the Gothamist staff. Best wishes to the best web site from England
I want to add my congrads to Jen and Gothamist and its staff. This award is well deserved. You all worked so hard to get to this point and I hope this is the impetus you need to vault the ..IST network to a new level.
CONGRATULATIONS!! Not just for this site but for the whole network. I now automatically visit an -ist site, if it exists, when I'm planning to visit another city.
congratulations to everyone at gothamist!! it's great that wired is recognizing what your readers have long appreciated, even the ones who complain a lot. nice work!!
Congratulations, Jen. No matter what the haters say, they still come to this site, so win-win!
Kudos!
ok, you guys do deserve this. truly: well done.
Your an everyday topic with her, That's bad she's only [10] .
"You're"
Congratulations Jen and Gothamist. Keep up the fine work.
Congratulations!!!!
Congratulations Jen and Gothamist.
Well-deserved; you guys are fabulous.
Now if only we could find a way to quite that damn advertising day job, huh?
Yes, I saw this! (I'm a WIRED subscriber). Congrats.
But good lord with all the "haters." Who cares if there's a spelling mistake here and there. Man, it sounds like a there's a lot of people out there that graduated with an English degree, and then realized that their only career option is to be a high school English teacher.
If you want perfect spelling and strict AP Style Guide usage, go read the Times. If you want something worth reading about NYC, stick with the -ist!
Okay, how about this, then. To honor and thank us commenters, how about fixing the comments system so that 30-50% of all comment attempts don't result in useless error messages and often double postings?
Jen, this is well-deserved. Congratulations. You certainly keep me wired into what's going on in New York. I marvel at how you manage to do it so successfully.
Congratulations, Jen! I'm happy for you and everyone at the -ists!
It shows that you actually pay attention to detail "Mateo", With that said Try reading into the comment ! Have you ever heard of the word/term "Sarcasm" ? Well I have a nasty habit of employing it in all of my posts . Think of it as a puzzle where as you are the one responsible for "Desiphering" (deciphering) it ! Get my "pooint" (Point)!!!
Jen (and your gain),
You are heroes to all of us!
Thanks for the inspiration.
annieo
Congratulations! You {and your crew} TOTALLY deserve it.
This site is awesome, being away from New York I can get up to date with my beloved City. Congrat for the award. =)
