700 Marijuana Plants Found in Apartment

Christmas trees! That's what 700 marijuana plants look like when they were being hauled out by the DEA. WNBC has photographs and video of a pot bust in Washington Heights, and the plants just seem endless, like kudzu. It's the stuff Harold's dreams are made of. WNBC reported, "It took investigators several hours to remove all of the drug-related material from the location." Also, it was "unusual" for so many pot plants to be grown in one city location.
A tipster told the authorities about the pot farm in an apartment at Amsterdam and West 154th Tuesday night, and the electrical set-up was so complicated that experts from Con Ed had be to called to dismantle it. And the electricity was being stolen from nearby power lines - those electricity bills are just really pesky!
The DEA doesn't have any more details about the bust on its website, but they do have an electronic tip form.

Sad...
that's depressing. might even make prices go up. the stuff is already worth way more than its weight in gold in NYC (literally).
Sad yes. But when even with the gigantic busts if the street value remains the same, the DEA or police hven't even put a dent in smuggling or sales.
This is filler for the nightly news.
tipster = snitch!
Every time I hear a story like this I experience anxiety: What if that was my dealer's source?
snitches get stitches!
Wow, those are nice ones too. Especially grown inside.
They should make March 27th a day of mourning.
NEVER FORGET
It's not that ConEd bills are pesky which prompted such a complex electrical system.
The underlying issue is the amount of power consumed, and the time cycle of that usage (lights and other devices on timers). It is easily identified by ConEd and authorities.
By taking a little power from a number of almost untraceable sources, you can avoid that risk.
Too soon for jokes.... too soon!
NNNNNNnnnnnnnnnnnnnooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Seriously, how old are you people? At some point smoking pot just makes you look like a loser. I think the age where it gets pathetic is somewhere around 24. Drink scotch or step up to cocaine but pot is so high school.
way back when in NYC, people used to smoke pot openly in the parks and on door stoops. post giuliani new yorkers have become passive to the police state imposed by giuliani. rarely do people smoke in public any more, and if they do--they actually risk spending a night or two in jail. (yes JAIL--just for smoking a joint).
in CA the people have kept it decriminalized, and in fact have legalized it for medical use.
in that sense new yorkers are disappointing.

Hundreds of plant cut down cruelly before the prime of their life!
HOW CAN WE LIVE WITH OUR SELVES!
I hope they dispose of them by bonfire.
i still smell pot regularly when I walk around nyc. smelled it last week in the east village. this was the middle of the day. so it still goes on...
How is 154th and Amsterdam Washington Heights?
If pot is good enough for Willie Nelson, it's good enough for me.
I don't think I've ever heard anyone say anything bad about willie.
what's up with Jen Chung providing a link to the DEA's snitch site? Very uncool. I didn't know Gothamist was so pro-drug war. Feh.

This is quite true. I smoke pot in public regularly in a couple of Brooklyn neighborhoods. Furthermore, there are groups of teens who blatantly smoke blunts on the stoop where I live; this is not uncommon.

Maybe it's just me, but I find alcohol consumption more distateful than the use of marijuana.
gold is $660/oz
Maybe it's just me, but I find alcohol consumption more distateful than the use of marijuana.
It's just you.
"Maybe it's just me, but I find alcohol consumption more distasteful than the use of marijuana."
Ditto. Just compare how many people that have died consuming alcohol to how many who died smoking pot.
Think about how many hippies or thuggy blunted teens you WISH would die... and not from consumption of anything. You just want to see them get run over by a dump truck.
Especially compared to cocaine, for chrissakes. talk about distasteful. I would take a full of stoners over coked up dudes any day.
154th & Amsterdam is West Harlem, not the Heights.
All ditzes are whores of somekind. You, it appears, are a whore of the state.

154th and Amsterdam is Heritage Heights, Hamilton Heights or Sugar Hill. It is not Harlem, West Harlem (that one is new to me, is this a new term from the brokers?) and certainly not Washington Heights.
so it seems Gothamist is pro drug war. ('here is a link where you can snitch').
but defacing property, that's glorified as "art"
@150th and Amsterdam:
"Heritage Heights" is definitely the newest of all those names and is total brokerspeak.
Traditional names are Sugar Hill (for the small historic brownstone district) and, yes, West Harlem.
(and sorry for my multi posts above, but I kept getting "proxy error"/resubmit)
That's not Morningside Heights?
I hope that was a joke.
"Step up to cocaine?" Uh, no thanks. I'll grow old ripping the bong while you blow all your money turning yourself into a jaw-grinding dickhead.
"munchies" I guess where not as sophisticated as you . If you want to "Step up to Cocaine" that's your thing . Leave us pot smokers be dude ! Also, How you gonna enable people to drop dime on others here Gothamist ?
U.S. marijuana laws suck. The only thing that makes marijuana dangerous is its illegal status.
if i had to pay more than $200 for an ounce id start growing too. CANADA RULES!
Really? Weed? Seriously? I graduated from weed to cocaine probably around 11th grade and never looked back. Once in a while I do some meth or heroin -- like when I'm out drinking -- weed is just for posers. Keep smoking that weak stuff you idiots.
and you people keep wondering why the price of hash keep soaring!!!
plus you have to take COLA into account
( Cost of Living Adjustment)
Sure thing "RicoStarr" . I will puff my weed and grow old and wise while you go through stash after stash . Until you run out and have to "Create" ways to further your addiction .
motionless, I see;
